Lima, 24 Jan, 2006
With
more than 100 national and international participants like small
farmers, indigenous, consumers and NGOs, finished the International
Seminary "Toward Common Agenda of Organic Agriculture in Latinoamerica and the Caribbean like
pre - event the First Regional Assembly of GALCI.
Between
the international guests coming Felipe Iniquez (Mexico), Abel
Ribera(Nicaragua), Eduardo Calderon (Guatemala), Miguel Castro (Costa
Rica), Ricardo Delgado (Cuba), Adriana Bermudez (Colombia), Alexander von Labell (Colombia),
Carlos A. Escobar (Colombia), Jose Rivanedeira (Ecuador), Gustavo
Birbuet (Bolivia), Ann P. (Bolivia), Miguel Altieri (USA), Virginia
Zenteno (Chile), Maria Clazada (Argentina) and Pipo Lernoud from IFOAM World Board,
among others of Peruvian origin.
The event began with some words by
Antonieta Manrique - director of the Ecologic Agriculture Network of
Peru (RAE), Angela Caudle - executive director of IFOAM and Patricia Flores-
GALCI coordinate; then, some speakers spoke about balance and detailed state
of ecologic agriculture in Latinoamerica. The same, poinst
like local markets, participatory guarantee systems and farmers rights
were subjects with active participation of guests and farmers' representatives.
Also, different representatives from diverse
organizations like MAELA, IFOAM, GALCI, SOCLA and RAPAL shared their
activities and ideas with the purpose of finding points in common.
This event has been catalogued like one of the
most important in the region because the advance and consolidation of
Latin American ecologic agriculture depend of strategic alliances.
Finally
and after of seminar, the first regional assembly of GALCI was
carried out with participation of 20 from different countries duirng 26th and 27th January, 2006.
This event was supported by HIVOS, ICCO and SSNC.
